In general, anionic polyacrylamide is suitable for neutral and alkaline environments, and cationic polyacrylamide and non-ionic polyacrylamide are suitable for acidic and neutral environments. Different flocculants can be used in different pH environments, which is directly related to their molecular structure.
Anionic polyacrylamide is suitable for alkaline and neutral environment, and has good flocculation effect on the system with positive charge on the surface of solid particles. Anionic polyacrylamide has a wide range of applications, and most of the current market is weakly anionic, with a degree of hydrolysis of about 26%. Non-ionic flocculants are suitable for systems with low net charge on the surface of solid particles, and can generally be used for acidic or near-neutral water quality!
In the case of cationic polyacrylamide, since its aqueous solution is positively charged, suspensions containing negative charges can be rapidly flocculated and precipitated. Under acidic conditions, organic matter is easy to combine hydrogen ions, but the hydroxyl, carboxyl, amide, etc. in it still have electronegativity, and hydrogen bonding can occur, so it is easy to interact with cationic polyacrylamide. At the same time, the quaternary ammonium salt ion of cationic flocculant is not too strong to bind protons, and still interacts with large organic matter. But if the acid is too strong, it will lose its effect. If the acidity is strong, polyaluminum chloride can be added first, because polyaluminum chloride is alkaline can play a role in neutralization, and polyaluminum chloride can flocculate suspended particles in acidic wastewater into fine flocs, and then add flocculant can better play the role of flocculation and precipitation.
In the acidic and alkaline environment, manufacturers use polyaluminum chloride alone, that the addition of polyaluminum chloride and other inorganic flocculants, and then add polymer flocculant is more troublesome, and the unit price of polyacrylamide is higher. From the surface, the price of polyacrylamide is more expensive, but the molecular weight is high, as long as the selection is appropriate, the general dosage is very small, and the formation of flocs is large, the settling speed is fast, the water is clear, and its comprehensive cost performance is higher than that of polyaluminum chloride. Therefore, our company suggests that polyaluminium chloride and polyacrylamide can be used together to achieve the best water treatment effect.
